‘Gadwakam’ is also known as ‘Bell Metal Casting’ or ‘Cire Perdue’ and also as  ‘Vanishing Wax’ technique. It is also called ‘Dhokra’(oldest). India has a distinguished history of ‘Cire Perdue’ in its earliest records, as seen in the Iron Beams of ‘Konark Sun Temple’ in the Indian state Orissa and the Iron Pillar at ‘Kutub Minar’ in Delhi.

Bell metal casting is one of the oldest and earliest known methods of non-ferrous metal casting. Metals also have a religious significance in some Indian beliefs. As the metal itself is considered sacred, so is the technique of the casting.
