The Santal paintings are completely inspired by the tribal village and its people. The spaces in the scrolls lines are simple and clearly defined. The themes of the Santal paintings include village scenes, harvesting, tribal dancing, festival celebrations, social themes. Their drawings are simple and capture the gracefulness of body movements. The repertoire also includes paintings of Krishna and Radha, the Gods of the Puranas, Santal heroes, Kings and Satya Pir, the human faced Tiger God. The drawings are expressive, show figures in tribal clothes with tribal objects such as pots, musical instruments, sticks.
